WHILST in the UK, Mothering Sunday is a spring celebration, our friends around the world wait until May to honour their mothers. The celebration has been official in the US for over century, after Anna Jarvis - a mums' groups leader during the Civil War - established Mother's Day in memory of her own late mother (whose birthday was in May), and president Woodrow Wilson declared it a holiday in 1914. Since, it has become a veritable festival of motherhood.
